Complete bat management from first inspection to final decontamination — for homes and businesses anywhere in Idaho. In business since 2011. Fully warranted.

Idaho Wildlife Specialists is an Idaho-based bat removal company serving the entire state since 2011. We offer three integrated services — bat colony removal, structural bat-proofing, and guano cleanup — backed by a full warranty on all work.

Service 1: Bat Colony Removal

The first step — getting the bats out safely, legally, and permanently

How We Remove Bat Colonies

Our bat removal process begins with a thorough inspection of your property to locate every active entry and exit point the colony is using. Bats can enter through gaps as small as 3/8 of an inch — so our inspections are methodical and complete.

Once all entry points are documented, we install custom one-way exclusion devices at each active opening. These devices allow bats to exit the structure normally — but prevent them from re-entering. The bats leave at dusk, find they cannot return, and relocate to natural roost sites over the following days.

After the colony has fully vacated (typically 5–10 days), the exclusion devices are removed and the openings are permanently sealed. The result: a completely bat-free structure with no dead bats, no poisons, and no violations of Idaho or federal wildlife law.

  • Complete property inspection
  • Custom one-way exclusion devices at all active entry points
  • No trapping, no poison, no harm to bats
  • Full compliance with Idaho Fish & Game regulations
  • Works on all Idaho bat species
  • Residential & commercial

Important: Exclusion Timing in Idaho

Idaho bat exclusion work must be timed to comply with wildlife protection regulations:

  • Spring (March–May): Ideal exclusion window before maternity season
  • Summer (June–August): No exclusion during maternity season when flightless pups are present — this is both illegal and inhumane
  • Late Summer–Fall (Aug 15–Oct): Second ideal window after pups become flightless
  • Winter: Bats in hibernation — exclusion possible in some cases

Service 2: Bat-Proofing & Structural Exclusion

Permanent sealing — once we seal it, it stays sealed

What Bat-Proofing Covers

After the bat colony has completely vacated, our technicians return to permanently seal every potential re-entry point on your structure. We work methodically from the roofline to the foundation, addressing every gap, crack, and penetration that bats could use.

Common entry zones we seal include:

  • Ridge caps — gaps where the roof ridge cap has lifted or separated
  • Fascia-soffit junctions — the most common bat entry point in Idaho homes
  • Roof vents & gable vents — poorly screened or deteriorated venting
  • Chimney flashings — where chimney meets roofline
  • Utility penetrations — pipe, wire, and conduit entry points
  • Dormer & valley intersections — complex roof geometry gaps
  • Window & door frames — gaps in aging trim and caulking
  • Log chinking gaps — common in log homes throughout Idaho

Our Warranty

Every bat-proofing job we complete is backed by a full warranty. If bats re-enter through any point we sealed, we return and correct it at no charge — no questions asked, no time limit.

Our technicians have experience sealing every building type common in Idaho:

  • Standard wood-frame residential
  • Log cabin & timber-frame construction
  • Masonry, brick, and concrete block
  • Metal roofing (common in ranch settings)
  • Historic commercial buildings
  • Agricultural structures
  • Multi-story commercial
  • Vacation cabins & seasonal properties

Service 3: Bat Guano Cleanup & Decontamination

Safe removal of all biological contamination — your attic restored to clean, safe condition

Why Guano Cleanup Is Critical

Accumulated bat guano is not just an aesthetic problem — it poses genuine health risks. Bat droppings can harbor Histoplasma capsulatum, a fungal pathogen that causes histoplasmosis when its spores are inhaled. The risk is highest when dried guano is disturbed during attic work, renovation, or HVAC activities that circulate air through contaminated spaces.

Do not disturb bat guano yourself. Proper cleanup requires full PPE, an N-100 respirator, and EPA-registered decontaminants. Our crews are trained and equipped to handle all levels of guano accumulation safely.

Our Cleanup Process

  1. Assessment: We evaluate the extent of contamination and determine whether insulation replacement is needed.
  2. Safe removal: Guano is carefully removed using HEPA-filtered vacuum equipment and manual removal as needed, with PPE-equipped technicians throughout.
  3. Decontamination: We apply EPA-registered enzyme-based decontaminants to neutralize biological pathogens, fungal spores, and residual organic material.
  4. Odor neutralization: Professional odor treatment eliminates the ammonia-based odors that accumulate from bat urine and guano.
  5. Insulation replacement: When contamination has compromised attic insulation, we safely remove the affected material and replace it with fresh insulation to restore proper thermal performance.

Signs of Significant Guano Accumulation

  • Strong ammonia smell from attic, especially in warm weather
  • Dark staining on attic floor joists and insulation
  • Insulation appears compacted or matted down in areas under colony roost points
  • HVAC delivering unpleasant odor when running
  • Colony in place for multiple seasons — accumulation compounds rapidly

Health Conditions Associated with Bat Guano

  • Histoplasmosis — lung infection from Histoplasma capsulatum spores in guano
  • Rabies exposure — from bats that have died in the structure
  • Bat bugs — parasitic insects related to bed bugs that infest bat roost sites

If you have reason to believe guano has been disturbed or you have experienced respiratory symptoms after attic exposure, consult a physician.
